Pecha Kucha
On my Pecha Kucha assignment, I worked with four other girls surrounding the idea of Branding and Identity. I've always loved the idea of walking into a cafe or office or fashion store that had a very strong sense of branding and a theme that tied the whole concept together. It always gave us as customers of certain feel, whether it's warm and cozy, edgy and monochrome, or even modern with all white.
These things always inspire me to continue being creative in my own life! Here were the examples that I picked for my Pecha Kucha assignment.
1. STERLITAMAK
The first design that I picked was Sterlitamak, a very modern city branding in Russia.
They took a concept of having three sides as a wholesome concept to brand an entire city! The idea was to use something like a triangle and these range of colors to represent Sterlitamak so that even without knowing what it meant, people could relate and identity their city.
2. RIVERA
The second branding and identity I chose was Rivera, a lifestyle branding by the company IndustriaHED™ Branding Co. in Brazil. It was to communicate brand, luxury, refinement and sophistication to its target audience.
There is a simple sophistication that comes with the brand in terms of its logo. It's stunning what certain tweaks in typography can do it an entire font. The gold rim detailing on the edges of the business cards gave it a different outlook completely.
3. INFORMAL CAFE
The Informal Anymade Cafe was an idea concocted between a cafe and its union with a coffee brand. The branding carries on through a series of packaging revealing three types of coffee roasts. Cigarette Dust, Walking Hours and Chanterelle Toss.
I quote 'These hands reflects significantly on how designers like us, work late into the night, through bloody sweats, perhaps mild hallucinations, running on adrenaline and high dosages of caffeine in our veins and the cigarette fumes cravings. They represent the contrast between the bright and dark sides of what our hands and minds can create.'
The Informal Cafe inspires.
4. DONUT'S CLUB
I really liked this project mainly because of the design process. I love hands on work and the way that the idea came about was very physical and I always believe that it's great to stick to the basics. The Donut's Club wanted a take away box that transported the customers to a donut world where everything was magical. The only limitations they were given was that the design could not have heroes and characters on it. I thought the colors and the design were very intriguing and it is a completely different approach to the regular wood and smoke type of designs we usually see at cafes nowadays.
The detailing that he puts into every building and tree is wonderful. There's not an object on the surface that isn't interesting to look at.
5. ME
Mirco and Eva are the founders of the studio, hence the initials ME. They chose really unconventional objects to brand, for example bags, notebooks, condons, posters. Every one of these objects utilised the world 'Me', to create a message to highlight the nature of the product and create an emotional link between the people and them.
AS FOR ME
Based on the designs that I've seen, I tried to bring this wholesome branding and identity concept to my room. I wanted a clean and modern, yet personal feel. I wanted someone to come into my room and immediately tell the kind of person I am through the things that I've put up.
Even though this has all been taken down now because I'm moving out, I will always remember this dorm room of mine and the inspiration behind it!
